No ambiguity, I always had a penchant for the preppy style. During my last trip in New York I bought this basic striped bag from jack spade who became my inseparable companion. Each of my handbags has a name. Guess how is called this one?

Few days ago, I finally received my new “pièce de collection”. A copy of the french newspaper Libération, entirely illustrated by Karl Lagerfeld. I had a delightful breakfast immersed in a small part of the art of Monsieur Karl and thanking my dear friend Nadia for sending it to me.

What I like about Monocle magazine has to do with classic, strong values and sophistication.
Monocle it’s highly related to an inestimable quality: the good taste. In time, it became for me one of those objects which are good to live with. I collect every issue but some are missing. I borrowed them and never returned.
I’ll try a comparison between fashion and Monocle magazine. In fashion, things are made as noticeable as possible by means of colour, shape and surprise. The simple cut and the flattering materials, which are synonymous of personality, are my choice. Monocle has this personality accentuated by the idealistic goal to serve industry and the happy “consuming masses” at the same time.

Moncle it’s not a fashion magazine but inside the contents, at the D letter, can be found a Fashion Briefing. The editor’s picks are consistent: preppy, BCBG, classical. A philosophy of essentials and things easy and better to live with. My attraction and appreciation for Monocle could be the visual consequence of a function or a feeling.

The summer scents of lime blossom, lavander, musk and salty marine breeze transports me to the south-western of France, in Biarritz. Since right now I’m going a little “retro style” I think that this chapeau will suit me wonderfully.

Mara & her love affair with LV bags

It’s probably time to explain why I am consistently talking about Louis Vuitton bags. I’m not in love with them, yet they exercise a sort of fascination on me. After sharing my reservation about LV bags I wanted to understand better why Italians women are so attached to the LV logo bags.

I met Mara some time ago during a women’s entrepreneurship course. From the moment she walked in, in a discreet yet in a ferme way, I loved her. I remembered she wore a Louis Vuitton bag and that lead me to call her about a week ago and ask her all about.

I bought a bouquet of peony and I went to her house where she received me. I felt delightfully surprised to discover a romantic atmosphere and peony all over the house. Mara got her very first Louis Vuitton bag, more precisely, the Speedy model, in 1989. She bought it in Venice 21 years ago and it’s exactly the same bag she was wearing the first time I saw her.

Mara’s story captivates me. Her eyes are excited when she tells me that it felt like holding the world in her arms when she got the first LV bag. I discovered tenderness and intriguing melancholy in her voice when she confessed the love and devotedness for her family.
“I am a very lucky person and I had everything I desired in my life”. It touches me deeply when she says that her husband is “stra-bello”, a super-beautiful man.

Mara has several and only Louis Vuitton bags. Amongst all, the red one is her favourite. Surprisingly, I found myself asking Mara what she will do with her old Speedy bag because I will be very interested to have it when she will need it no more. There is no love between me and LV bags. I’m interested in stories. The passion and the history behind this bag conquered me.
Even though the Italians streets are full of LV bags, Mara feels unique and individual and truly belives that “Il fascino non è mostrare”.

I cannot say why I love shoes. I don’t even remember when I started to love shoes. As a child, I used to have only two pairs of shoes. One for the summertime and one for the cold season. I have been educated and instructed to keep them rigorously clean and not “to ruin them”. A sort of a ritual has been established. Each evening I had to take care of my shoes and sometimes those of my sister’s too: to clean and polish them.
At that young age, I often wondered why do I had to cajole them all the time and what it would be like to have several pairs. By that time, I started to have a recurrent dream. While headed to school I am realizing that I don’t wear any shoes and I am suddenly frightened. I keep thinking that my current affection for shoes could be an echo of those times.

The fusion between the poetry of the wheatfield and the simple yet sophisticated pair of sandals inspires me.

irrevocably under the spell

I grew up seeing the women around me having their head covered. Most of them. Headscarfs, woollen and cotton handmade hats, felt hats, beaver hats. My mother’s obsession for headscarfs introduced me to the pleasures of patterns and prints at a young age and contributed to my current passion and love for hats. I feel today the same exhilaration I felt once spending hours trying to wear them in a suitable way and look beautiful.

Few weeks ago, in a Milan shop, I saw this enchanting hat. It was all black. From that moment, I kept thinking continuously at “the little Eiffel Tower hat”. It express something that speaks to my heart. I saw the promise of beauty. I imagined myself wearing it with different clothes and in different situations. I felt beautiful. What is more exciting then the promise of being beautiful? stephen jones hats
