Few days ago, I finally received my new “pièce de collection”. A copy of the french newspaper Libération, entirely illustrated by Karl Lagerfeld. I had a delightful breakfast immersed in
a small part of the art of Monsieur Karl and thanking my dear friend Nadia for sending it to me.

exercice de style
What I like about Monocle magazine has to do with classic, strong values and sophistication.
Monocle it’s highly related to an inestimable quality: the good taste. In time, it became for me
one of those objects which are good to live with. I collect every issue but some are missing.
I borrowed them and never returned.
I’ll try a comparison between fashion and Monocle magazine. In fashion, things are made as noticeable as possible by means of colour, shape and surprise. The simple cut and the flattering materials, which are synonymous of personality, are my choice. Monocle has this personality accentuated by the idealistic goal to serve industry and the happy “consuming masses”
at the same time.

Moncle it’s not a fashion magazine but inside the contents, at the D letter, can be found a Fashion Briefing. The editor’s picks are consistent: preppy, BCBG, classical. A philosophy of essentials and things easy and better to live with. My attraction and appreciation for Monocle could be the visual consequence of a function or a feeling.
handbags on Milano streets | my favourite

She is my favourite! I have seen people wearing Chanel bags being so affected but she is carrying it in such a easy way!!
my personal gypsy trend book

Inside the envelope I received this morning I found a book wrapped in a old violet fabric. It’s called “Les inconnus dans la maison”, by Georges Simenon. There is no text to be seen, the book is full of colourful photographs. Remembers me my origins, my childhood colours.
I’m in love with this precious book and with my little sister ♡Gabriela♡, who made it especially for me.

While working on a project involving a Gypsy community in southern France, Gabriela told me
she will do “something” for me. This is the most beautiful and inspiring gift she ever made to me!
you will get lost in… shoes

In a world of shoes. In a world of dramatically creative and experimental shoes you will be lost, enchanted and inspired. Bonne promenade at the virtual shoe museum.
collecting or owning?

Frivolity is not all bad. The intelligent frivolity can be creative and positive. I love bags. I love collecting, I hate owning.

escapism
I’m compelled to rest and I’m stuck in bed for few days. I’m feeling sad and the gloomy weather is not helping. My lack of enthusiasm it’s understandable yet I’m not going to brood about. I decided to seek refuge in the warm and affectionate world of books. I’ve always considered the books “une valeur sûre” and I built with them an intimate relationship. I took from the bookshelf two extraordinarily beautiful books full of colours and inspiration. Despite the fact I had them from some time I love watching and reading several times: The Selby is in your space by Todd Selby and Natural Fashion, Tribal Decoration from Africa by Hans Silvester.
The first one, satisfies one of my hidden desires: looking in the windows of other people’s apartements. I confess, I do it. I look on the other side of the fence. I’m curious. Don’t you? That’s what Todd Selby does: goes to your place and photographs your dog, your shoes and intriguing ceramic collections, stuffed animals, antiques and takes you into a fascinating voyage. Todd is an exquisite voyeur and the book emanates love and provides me the escapism I need those days.
Here, we are at Monsieur’s Karl house.
More precisely in his studio where every wall is covered with books.
The second book, completes my unbalanced palette by revealing breathtaking color photographs taken by Hans Silvester in the Omo Valley in southern Ethiopia. The magnificent colours used for the body painting are pigments made from powdered stone, plants berries and river mud. I feel dragged into a magical, disturbing, inventive world. I’m fascinated by the beauty of colours and the elaborated decoration barrowed from nature.
I’m seduced, again and again. I’m profoundly touched. Bewitched by the powerful expression of the models eyes. I’ve find myself transported into another dimension. A mysterious dimension. And that’s why I LOVE BOOKS. They bring me somewhere else. They feed my soul. They feed my imagery.
